WHAT THIS SCREEN ANSWERS

Belt-drive layout begins with geometry before it becomes a catalog selection. Pulley diameters and center distance set the ratio, belt speed, wrap, and approximate belt length. Those values make it possible to reject a layout that is physically awkward or poorly wrapped before spending time on a specific belt family.

Enter pitch diameters when they are known, not outside diameters from a rough sketch. MechPlane divides the driven diameter by the driver diameter to estimate the ideal reduction. It also calculates the driven speed from that ratio and the belt speed from the driver circumference and rpm. These are geometric results that assume no slip and a conventional open belt arrangement.

Wrap angle on the smaller pulley matters because the small pulley usually governs grip or tooth engagement. A larger center distance can improve wrap but also changes length, belt dynamics, packaging, and adjustment travel. The approximate length calculation is a planning value for comparing layouts, not a substitute for the exact belt pitch and length selected from a manufacturer catalog.
