WHAT THIS SCREEN ANSWERS
A motor and gearbox should be assessed as an envelope, not as a single torque comparison. Required speed, peak torque, RMS torque, and reflected inertia can each eliminate a candidate. This screen keeps those checks visible at the same time so a strong result in one category does not hide a breach in another.
Enter the required motor-side speed and torque values from the preceding motion calculations. Then enter the candidate motor limits from the current data sheet, plus the reflected load inertia and motor inertia. MechPlane compares each pair directly and calculates the reflected-to-motor inertia ratio. The output names each condition instead of averaging them into a score that could hide the governing limit.
The inertia ratio is contextual, not a pass-fail rule. Some servo systems tolerate a wide ratio when control tuning and the application support it. Others need a narrower range for response or stability. Use the number to ask the right supplier and controls question rather than treating a generic ratio as an engineering approval.
A candidate that fits this envelope still needs a real component review. Check the gearbox output torque and thermal rating, motor torque-speed curve, drive current, braking path, backlash, bearing loads, mounting stiffness, duty cycle, environment, and supplier installation instructions.
