WHAT THIS SCREEN ANSWERS
A motor duty screen answers a question that a peak-torque check cannot: can the drive repeat the requested cycle without treating every moment as continuous? A motor experiences heating over time, while a process experiences different torque states. RMS torque is a compact way to compare a simplified cycle with an entered continuous torque envelope.
This page uses one running state and one peak state. It squares each torque, weights it by the time spent there, divides by total time, and takes the square root. The peak is still shown separately because a motor can meet an RMS requirement while exceeding a controller or motor transient limit. Both checks matter and neither should be hidden behind one green-looking result.
Enter the limits from the exact motor documentation and note the conditions behind them. Continuous torque can change with mounting, cooling, ambient temperature, line voltage, drive configuration, and speed. Peak torque may be time-limited or current-limited. The tool does not supply those values because a generic motor name is not enough evidence for a credible limit.
Use the output to narrow a candidate set. When the RMS or peak condition is close to a limit, the next action is not to add an arbitrary margin. Review the real torque-speed curve, motion profile, thermal model, controller limit, gearbox efficiency, and regenerative behavior. The resulting decision remains preliminary until those component-specific conditions are checked.
